Jamby warms up to Migz’s ‘bottom’

By AUREA CALICA – Sen. Jamby Madrigal made neophyte Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri blush when she commented on his “bottom” before interpellating him on his privilege speech about global warming. Since Madrigal’s rostrum was at the back portion of the Senate session hall and Zubiri stood at the one in front, he asked if it was all right with the female senator if they would not be facing each other during their debate.

“It’s okay, I prefer to see your beautiful bottom,” Madrigal told Zubiri, eliciting laughter and amusement from the people in the gallery.

Zubiri did not react and just listened to Madrigal as she continued to talk, even explaining that Zubiri was actually her nephew.

Before she is accused of harassment or unparliamentary behavior, Madrigal told The STAR she did nothing wrong and was, in fact, very polite, if British standards are to be used.

“I don’t mind seeing your beautiful bottom. Maganda ang puwit mo (you have a great behind). That’s a very British term, that’s a polite way of saying it. That’s polite, your bottom. In England, you don’t say behind, (but) bottom. That’s a refined way of saying ‘puwit’ or ass,” Madrigal said.

Madrigal herself started laughing as she explained her comment.

“Hindi nyo naintindihan yun (You did not understand that)? Shame on you,” she joked.

“It is like ‘livid’ that (Sen. Francis) Chiz (Escudero) could not understand. That’s British also. In England, when you say she was livid, ‘galit na galit’ (extremely angry). This one is beautiful bottom, to be polite, you do not say ass in public,” Madrigal said, smiling.

“Bottom is a polite word in Britain, huh? We are raising the bar in the Senate,” Madrigal further explained.

According to Madrigal, Zubiri is actually her distant relative because their grandmothers are both Paternos from Laguna.

“His mother is my second cousin, I think. We no longer have close blood relations,” Madrigal said.

She apparently isn’t always so polite. A source said earlier Madrigal used the word “ass” when she got mad over the announcement of committee chairmanships Monday last week.

She reportedly told Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. that the problem with those in the majority of the Senate was that they were always “licking the ass” of Senate President Manuel Villar Jr.

The STAR carried the banner story that the Senate minority bloc was “livid” because Villar refused to defer the announcement of committee chairmanships even though talks were supposedly still ongoing among the opposition senators so they could unify and become the Senate majority.

Villar is allied with nine pro-administration senators, three opposition and two independents.
