By REYMA BUAN-DEVEZA – Country’s King of Comedy Dolphy Vera Quizon marked his 80th birthday with the launching of his book “Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-Isa” last Wednesday, July 23 at The Fort in Taguig. The actor said that he dedicate his book to all the overseas Filipino workers who like him had experienced to work alone in abroad and felt the pain of being away from his love ones.
“Inaalay ko rin ang aking kwento sa mga OFW, pagkat tulad nila’y naranasan ko kung paano mawalay sa mga minamahal at magsakripisyo alang-alang sa pangarap na ginawa para sa pamilya… sabi ko nga una akong naging unang OFW yung mga anim na buwan (na nawawala nagta-trabaho),” Dolphy said.
In his book he also asked for forgiveness from those he hurt in the past and forgave those who’ve hurt him in various ways.
“Kung kayo may nasaktan ko, patawarin niyo ako, at kung kayo ang nagkasala sa aki’y pinatatawad ko na kayo,” he added.
Dolphy, who is turning 80 this Friday, July 25–and has fathered many children by various women–hopes that people could learn something from his colorful life, especially on matters of the heart.
“Harinawa’y makapagduklot ng aral ang aking mga pinagdaanan,” Dolphy said
The actor said that the book will never be complete without the help of his son Eric Quizon who conceptualized and did almost all the research for the book.
“Mahirap din. Very tiring at maraming oras na ginugol. Pero worth it. Siguro gusto ng anak ko na may maiwan akong legacy kaya nagpakahirap siya,” Dolphy said.
He said that that there are still a lot of things he still wants to keep secret and decided not to include in the book.
“Marami pa ngang hindi ko nilagay doon dahil tahimik na ang mga tao. Huwag na nating pakialaman,” explains Dolphy.
He said that the book will reveal the hardships of being a ‘womanizer.’ “Sinasabi ko, huwag pamarisan ang mga ginagawa ko doon. Well, doon napunta ang buhay ko. Madali akong umibig, magdali akong magmahal kaya ganoon.”
And when asked what his wish would be for his 80th birthday, the comedy king said: “ Wala na. Para sa akin wala na. Yung mga anak ko, yung mga maiiwan ko, yung mga anak ko kay Zsa Zsa, malalayo na naman iyong iba. Yung pito nga, nasa Amerika na. May kanya-kanya nang buhay, sa kanila na lang (ang wish ko).”
The star-studded launching of his book was attended by Dolphy’s families, closest friends, members of entertainment media, fans and supporters.
Some of the celebrities spotted in the event were actresses Dawn Zulueta, Juliana Palermo, Gisselle Sanchez, Sheryl Cruz, Nanette Medved, Riza Santos and Angelu de Leon.
Veteran actresses like Armida Siguion-Reyna, Gloria Diaz, Barbara Perez, Gloria Sevilla, Annabelle Rama, Celia Rodriguez, Daisy Romualdez and Susan Roces were also present.
The glitzy night was also the event for experienced actors like Edu Manzano, Leo Martinez, Robert Arevalo, Eddie Gutierrez and Eddie Garcia.
Directors Rowell Santiago, Carlos Seguion-Reyna, Bibeth Orteza and Joel Lamangan; senators Bong Revilla, Mar Roxas and Francis Escudero; Prof. Randy David and Willie Revillame were also there.
ABS-CBN’s president Charo Santos Concio was also present and even gave an opening remark for the event.
First gay movie
Dolphy said that his favorite and most memorable film is “Jack and Jill” wherein for the first time he portrayed a gay character. Dolphy said this movie made him a star.
Now after almost 50 years in showbiz, he made one of his dream projects and that is to do a movie with Prince of Comedy Vic Sotto.
Dolphy and Sotto will star in the film “Dobol Trobol.”
When asked whether he would still do another movie, Dolphy said: “Well titignan muna natin itong isa. Mayroon din kaming balak ni Eddie Garcia. Nag-uusap kami ni Vic at saka nila Tony. Parang gusto nilang gumawa pa kami ng isa pa.”
Dolphy shared that doing movie with Sotto was an experience filled with fun, laughter, and happiness on the set.
He is also thinking of doing a movie with ABS-CBN’s noontime show host, comedy actor Willie Revillame.
“Malay mo kami ni Willie ‘yung mga ganoon na lang, actually semi-retired na tayo di na tayo tulad ng dati na kaliwa’t kanan (ang trabaho).
Double wedding?
Dolphy’s life will never be complete with all the girls she loved before. But now, he’s happy with his ‘great love’ actress-singer Zsa Zsa Padilla.
Like any other guy Dolphy is still dreaming to marry his love. So when asked if he would agree to be part of double wedding that his co-star Vic Sotto is dreaming, Dolphy said: “Sana nga ang problema ay hindi ‘yung sa akin, yung kay Zsa Zsa ang problema… baka nga kako kapag natuloy yon nakatungkod na ako ‘opo tinatanggap ko po siya.’”
Dolphy said that if ever the wedding plan will push through, he and Padilla will do it abroad.
“Doon lang siguro ang plano niya doon, mayroon na nga [noon] ‘yon nabutata. Pati yung down payment niya, doon napurnada na. Talagang doon sa Amerika a contract is a contract.”
Dolphy consider his partner Padilla as his secret–that’s why he still healthy and feels young.
“(The secret is happy love life), totoo din iyon kapag bata (ang partner mo) siyempre babata din ako,”
Padilla failed to accompany Dolphy during the launching of his book because she’s abroad to fulfill prior commitments.
At his age, Dolphy said that he has almost done everything he set out to do. He said that right now he will just accept things or projects that will come his way.
