Bible group wants Lady Gaga concert stopped

ABS-CBNnews.com – A religious group is praying the upcoming concerts of Grammy winner Lady Gaga in Manila will not push through.

The group called Biblemode Youth Philippines is leading a campaign to have the flamboyant female artist banned in the Philippines. It said it will start a prayer vigil on Saturday until Gaga arrives in Manila for her two-night concert on May 21 and 22 to open the SM Arena.

This will be Lady Gaga’s second visit to Manila, who staged her first concert at the Araneta Coliseum years back.

Calling Gaga the “anti-Christ,” the group criticized Gaga for her skimpy costumes and provocative songs, such as “Judas,” which the group said is a direct insult to Jesus Christ.

“Yung kanyang paggamit ng imagery at mga lyrics na direktang lumalaban sa Panginoon, ‘yun ang hindi namin kinikilala,” Pastor Reyzel Cayanan of Biblemode Youth told ABS-CBN News.

Renen de Guia of Ovation Productions Inc., the promoter of Lady Gaga’s concerts in Manila, quickly dismissed the group’s claim that the artist is the anti-Christ.

“Walang katotohanan na anti-Christ si Lady Gaga. Artists constantly reinvent themselves and want to be controversial,” de Guia said in a statement.

“Those who criticize Lady Gaga are the ones who won’t be watching her concert anyway,” de Guia also said.

The Bible group’s campaign comes a day after the American singer was refused a permit in Indonesia, where she is scheduled to perform in Jakarta on June 3. Indonesian police said cited security concerns after Islamic groups voiced strong objections to her “vulgar” style.
