Another Pinoy English teacher honored in China

By Jerrie M. Abella/JV – Another Filipino teacher was honored by the Chinese government as an outstanding foreign expert for teaching English in China’s Liaoning Province.

In a release, the Department of Foreign Affairs, quoting a report from the Philippine Embassy in Beijing, said Frederick Lomibao received the award from the province’s governor for his “outstanding contribution to the economic, scientific, technological, educational and cultural development of the province.”

Lomibao has been reaching English in China for six years now, and is currently employed at a private school in Liaoning’s Yingkou City, the release noted.

In an e-mail to the Philippine Embassy, Lomibao said the award he received “will not only bring honor to our country but also give inspiration to other Filipinos at home and abroad.”

“When I was with the other awardees, I (felt) very proud representing our country (in China),” he added.

Apart from Lomibao, three other Filipino teachers were also cited by China’s Jilin Province for their contributions to the province’s economic and social development. (See: Filipino teachers in China cited as outstanding foreign experts)

Filipino teachers Ma. Socorro Rodriguez, Arnel Genzola and Lileth Mesias Reyes also received “The Outstanding Foreign Experts Award,” annually conferred by the various provinces and cities in China to foreign experts.

The award is a gesture of appreciation for these experts’ outstanding achievements and contributions to China’s development.

“We commend our teachers for displaying the highest quality of dedication and professionalism in China,” Philippine Chargé d’ Affaires Maria Teresa Almojuela said.

“They also continue to build important links with the Chinese people, and strongly contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations between the Philippines and China,” she added. – via GMANews.TV
