Emperador eyes French cognac maker

via ABS-CBNnews.com – Emperador Inc. on Monday said it is planning to submit a bid for Louis Royer SAS, a cognac maker in France.

“Emperador Inc. wishes to clarify that it has expressed interest to participate in a bidding process for the acquisition of Louis Royer SAS, a cognac producer in France, and will submit a preliminary offer on May 13, 2015. However, its offer is still subject to the evaluation and final decision of the seller,” the Andrew Tan-owned liquor manufacturer told the stock exchange.

Emperador issued the disclosure after the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported the company is set to seal the deal to acquire Louis Royer as early as Wednesday (May 13).

Louis Royer, which is owned by Japan’s Suntory group, has been producing and selling cognac for over 150 years in the Cognac region in France. Aside from cognac, its products include brandies, liqueurs, and spirits.

Emperador noted it is currently debt-free. “(Emperador) is, therefore, in a very strong financial position to further expand its business both globally and domestically,” it said.

If the deal to acquire Louis Royer pushes through, it would be Emperador’s third foreign acquisition. The company has already acquired Scottish whisky company Whyte & Mackay, as well as vineyards in Toledo, Spain.
