From a database of nearly 21 million companies reviewed by Entrepreneur magazine and research provider CentrisPoint, JUNO Healthcare Staffing was distinguished as one of the nation’s Hot 100 fast-growth businesses. JUNO Healthcare Staffing ranks 86 on the list for its rapid sales growth and positive job growth, among other select criteria. San Miguel Pale Pilsen is the best tasting beer in Asia, according to a popular US Magazine which recently gathered major beer brands from China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and Philippines for a taste test. The iconic brand of San Miguel Brewery, Inc. (SMB), San Miguel Pale Pilsen bested six other international brands in all categories – appearance, aroma, taste and finish — used by the magazine to determine the best tasting beer. (more…)

Billionaire Villar still richest Senator; GMA richer by 11M in 07

By Aurea Calica – Senate President Manuel Villar Jr. is now a billionaire and remains the richest among his colleagues while Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is the poorest. In the senator’s statement of assets and liabilities for this year, Villar’s net worth grew to P1,041,383,946, with no liabilities, from the P921.4 million that he declared in 2007. Villar is famous for his rags-to-riches story. He likes describing himself as a poor “shrimp vendor” who made good selling affordable houses to the Filipino people. (more…)

Congressman Crispin Beltran, 75, dies after falling from ladder

MANILA, Philippines: Left-wing Philippine lawmaker and veteran labor leader Rep. Crispin Beltran died Tuesday from head injuries after falling from a ladder at his house. He was 75. Beltran led the country’s largest left-wing labor federation — the May One Movement — and was arrested in 1982 under late dictator Ferdinand Marcos but escaped two years later and joined the underground anti-Marcos movement.

David Cook wins American Idol

Winning by 12 million votes. Americans today voted David Cook as the new Americal Idol beating Season 7 favorite David Archuleta. The new American Idol was in tears seconds after the winner was announced by host Ryan Seacrest.

As I rode along the streets of Manila in a jeepney – WWII-era U.S Army jeeps transformed into colorfully painted commuter buses – it was hard not to notice the banter between two of my fellow passengers.
