Cory doing OK after initial chemo session

Former president Corazon Aquino is “doing very well” after undergoing the first series of chemotherapy sessions in her battle against colon cancer, her family said Sunday.

Jiggy Aquino-Cruz, the former president’s eldest grandson, said his grandmother’s health is improving.

1,289 pass bar exams; 4 from Ateneo, 3 from UP are on top

MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court on Saturday announced that out of the 5,626 law graduates who took the Bar examinations last year only 1,289 or 22.91 percent passed. Four of the 10 topnotchers are from the Ateneo de Manila University, while three are from the University of the Philippines. (more…)

World going nuts over ‘Papaya Dance’

Filipino choreographer Mel Feliciano together with actor and gameshow host Edu Manzano took an old gay-disco-funk hit from the 1970s, “Papaya”, by Polish jazz vocalist Urszula Dudziack and turned it into a global dance fad–much like the Macarena craze.

Cory Aquino Diagnosed With Cancer

MANILA — Corazon C. Aquino, the former Philippine president who played a major role in the ouster of two of the country’s presidents, has colon cancer, her family announced Monday.

The cancer was discovered after Mrs. Aquino, 75, underwent a series of medical tests because of hypertension and difficulty in breathing in December. Since then, her daughter Kristina Bernadette Aquino said at a news conference on Monday, the former president has lost weight and appetite and has had a persistent cough. (more…)

Tourists, devotees flock to Bicol for Holy Week

It has been a week now since the Naga to Manila and returning flights in from Camarines Sur province have been fully-booked for the Holy Week vacation. Local airport authorities confirmed that what used to be an 80-passenger flight on non-peak days has now become a full 118-passenger flight and will be so until Tuesday after Holy Week. (more…)
