By JASON DePARLE – On June 25, 1980 (a date he would remember), a good-natured Filipino pool-maintenance man gathered his wife and five children for an upsetting ride to the Manila airport. At 36, Emmet Comodas had lived a hard life without growing hardened, which was a mixed blessing given the indignities of his poverty. Orphaned at 8, raised on the Manila streets where he hawked cigarettes, he had hustled a job at a government sports complex and held it for nearly two decades. On the spectrum of Filipino poverty, that alone marked him as a man of modest fortune. But a monthly salary of $50 did not keep his family fed. (more…)

TV game show host Kris Aquino gave birth to a son, James Yap Jr., at the Makati Medical Center on Thursday at 4:50 in the afternoon via Caesarean section. The baby is her first child by husband Philippine Basketball Association cager James Yap, ABS-CBS News reported. Baby boy James Jr. weighed in at 4.3 lbs. and was born at 35 weeks, a week earlier than previously expected. (more…)

abcnews.com – We now know the identity of the killer at Virginia Tech. He is Cho Seung-Hui, a 23-year-old resident alien of the United States, as first reported by ABC News. Cho is a South Korean national, a Virginia Tech senior majoring in English and the man who killed 33 people — inlcuding himself — on the Virginia Tech campus Monday. (more…)

via Doghouse Boxing- Round 1 – Solis comes out trying to establish his jab and find his groove early but Manny is offsetting him with his left hand throwing quick and explosive combinations that aren’t really landing but are backing Solis up. Pac tries to time his straight left hand but is feeling out Solis but is the more active of the two fighters. Solis lands a good right hand, Manny throws a straight left and then lands a short right hand. Manny finishes the round with a few good shots to Solis body. Manny was the more active fighter in this round and won that round off of that alone and landing a few more cleaner shots. All and all it was just a feel out round. (more…)
